GEORGW TOWN, Feb 21 – A businesswoman was shot dead as she was driving her BMW in Taman Pekaka, Bayan Baru here this evening. The victim has been identified as Ruby Lee Poh Ai, 49 years old was living at Alila Homes in Tanjung Bungah. Penang CID chief Assistant Commissioner Zainol Samah said the woman was shot while she was driving from Jalan Pekaka to Jalan Bukit Gambier during the 5.45pm incident.
He said two assailants on a motorcycle approached the car and one of them believed to be the pillion rider opened fire 10 shots at the victim. He said the victim sustained a fatal gunshot wound in the chest and other parts of her body. Several bullet holes were found on the window of her car.
After the shooting, the car driven by the woman (white BMW) lost control and crashed into the back of a four-wheel-drive vehicle vehicle driven by a man in his 30s in Jalan Pekaka 1 before coming to a stop near a house at Lintang Pekaka 9. A police forensics team is at the scene to investigate the case.
SAC Zainol said the preliminary investigations determined that the victim, whose name was not disclosed, was not a Datin or Datin Seri. He also stressed to reporters and refuted rumours that the victim was the wife of a gang leader who was charged in court on Monday with being members of an organised criminal group.
He said, although the shooting was not related to gangs, but added that police will investigate all angles including the victim’s family and friends, adding that the case will be investigated for murder under the Penal Code. The body of victim was sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem.
