KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 – The advice of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah on unity at the official opening of the first meeting of the Second Session of the 13th Parliament should be a guide to all parliamentarians. Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said Tuanku Abdul Halim’s speech which stressed on the importance of unity was timely.
“He touched on the basic issues such as the creation of a national race which must be seen in the bigger picture and based on basic values connected to unity, integrity, credibility and religion,” Hishammuddin who is the member of Parliament for Sembrong, said.
Ketereh member of Parliament, Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the king’s speech would create an interesting debate which would cover current situations in the country. “He emphasized on special issues, especially to protect the nation well and the duty of the parliamentarians to enforce it by giving input to the people they represent in their respective constituencies,” he said.
Deputy Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said besides unity, the king’s speech also reminded members of parliament to be moderate in all their action and statements which would only be for the good of the nation.
“Any irrational action would only be disastrous to the nation. As such, in every action, we should not be extreme so that the peace of the nation is not threatened,” the MP for Padang Terap said. Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Jailani Johari said Tuanku Abdul Halim touched on many things in general.
She said the King’s speech also touched on these two issues in general, including the development of the present-day youths. “The King is clearly aware of the issues that can bring prosperity to the people, including what need to be done by the younger generation of today,” she said.
In his speech, the King called on all members of Parliament to declare their undivided loyalty to the nation as well as preserve, protect and defend the Federal Constitution. He also urged all parliamentarians to perform their duties honestly, with integrity, dedication and responsibility.
