KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 – Low-cost airline, AirAsia will be shifting its operation to the new terminal, Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2), AirAsia Executive Chairman Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said. “I can confirm that we will move when everything is ok. Let’s not deliberate on that,” he told reporters when met on the sidelines of Talent Corporation’s Diversity and Inclusion session here Wednesday. On April 1, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi announced that the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang would be closed on May 9.
Responding to the announcement on the same day, AirAsia said all its operations will still be based at the current LCCT even after May 9. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had told AirAsia to move to klia2 as scheduled, although the government, through Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, was prepared to listen and discuss with them if there were any problems over the transfer. AirAsia is expected contribute about 80 per cent to the new low-cost airport’s traffic.
