BENTONG, April 12 – A married couple were among three people who perished in a bus accident at KM11 Jalan Bentong-Raub near Bilut here after midnight. The deceased have been identified as Somalian, Mohamad Mohamud Abdalla, 31, who had been residing at the UTM undergraduates’ residence at Setapak, Kuala Lumpur and his wife Zarifah Alias, 26, from Kampung Padang Jeman Salor, Kota Bharu, and Suhaisam Che Abdulla, 33, from Kampung Sg Masin Batang Kali, Selangor. District police chief Supt Mohamad Nor Mansor said 10 people were also injured in the 12.30 am incident. According to him, the double decker bus carrying 68 passengers was heading to Kota Bharu from Kuala Lumpur.
“The driver (Wan Khairul Affendi Mustafa, 35, who was among the injured) is believed to have overtaken a few vehicles before the bus skidded while negotiating a corner and crashed into an electric pole,” he told Bernama here. The injured were Siti Nabila Mohd Nasir, 23, Tuan Rosnani Tuan Mohd Din, 22, Mamalutfee (a Thai), Wan Muhamad Husin Abdullah, 54, Faizah Abdullah, 89, Ruwaidi Jusuh, 35, Nur Sazren Fazhera Mohd Shanif, 20, Norzamera Abd Manaf, 24, and Low Wan Yi, 23. “The three bodies have been sent to Bentong Hospital for post mortem while the injured were brought to the Temerloh and Bentong hospitals for treatment,” said Mohamad Nor.
