GEORGE TOWN, April 18 – The police have classified as sudden death, the case of a remand detainee who died at the Seberang Jaya Hospital last Saturday. Penang police deputy chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the police had carried out a full investigation and were ready to cooperate with the 37-year-old man’s family to explain the incident. “We have reviewed the medical report on the deceased and the post-mortem showed he died of lung infection,” he said. He was speaking to reporters after handing over a donation to 110 patients who received treatment at the children’s ward of the Penang Hospital here today. On March 31, the police detained the man for a drug-related case. Subsequently, he was said to have suffered a seizure while in custody and sent to the George Town Hospital before being referred to the Seberang Jaya Hospital where he died during treatment.  On Tuesday, the man’s wife alleged her husband died after suffering injuries while under police detention and sought for a detailed explanation from the police.
