PETALING JAYA, April 29 – Astro (M) Holdings Bhd, the official broadcaster of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, anticipates 300,000 downloads solely for its Astro Go 2014 FIFA World Cup application by the public. Astro Go 2014 FIFA World Cup application is an application where football pass holders can watch all 64 live matches on tablets, smartphones and personal computers. The ‘Watch’ experience on the Astro Go 2014 FIFA World Cup app will be enhanced with six live multi-cam feeds to fully capture the excitement of matches. With the unique event marker feature, favourite moments can be replayed with the tap of a finger during live matches and viewers can watch key moments of all matches in multi-angle. Astro Head of Sports Lee Choong Khay said the downloads would equally come from users that utilise Apple App store and Google Play, on which the app would be available beginning June 4, 2014.

“Currently, with our existing Astro On The Go application, released previously, it has successfully garnered 900,000 downloads to date. “Based on this overwhelming response, we hope to emulate it and thus prompt the public to download other applications, including the Astro Go 2014 FIFA World Cup application that will be introduced in conjunction with the World Cup,” he told Bernama at the Astro World Cup briefing here Tuesday. Besides Astro Go 2014 FIFA World Cup app, he said the other new applications to be introduced in conjunction with the World Cup are Ola Bola Football Predictor, Stadium Astro Fantasy Olabola Edition, Astro Go Read app and Astro GO Listen app.

Ola Bola Football Predictor is a live football prediction app, whereby users can make predictions on events, for example, free kicks, corners and penalty kicks, during an ongoing live football match and score points when users make accurate predictions. Meanwhile, Stadium Astro Fantasy Olabola Edition offers fans a chance to be a manager whereby users get to create their dream team, transfer players, join leagues, earn rewards and score points based on the real-life performances of the selected players, and stand a chance to win attractive prizes during the climax of the football frenzy World Cup season.  Astro Go Read app, on the other hand, curates and personalises content from sources all over the web and digitised print magazines, in which during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, content from Ola Bola Stadium Astro website and digitised print magazines such as FourFourTwo and other web sources will be curated, keeping fans on the ball.

Lastly, Astro GO Listen app alongside Astro Radio will be creating and aggregating the best 2014 FIFA World Cup content in multiple languages and World Cup themed radio station playing for users the best football and samba music, while keeping them abreast with news, updates, interviews and post-game analysis. Lee added the existing 900,000 downloaded Astro On The Go applications will also feature all 64 matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup for both Astro customers and non-Astro customers, whereby 30 of the 64 live matches will be free for all Malaysians while customers can purchase single game on pay-per-view basis sold at RM6 each.
