SINGAPORE, May 19 – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah was accorded an official ceremonial welcome at The Istana here Monday. The king and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah were greeted on arrival by Singapore president Dr Tony Tan and his wife, Mary Tan. The royal couple arrived Sunday for a four-day state visit to Singapore.

During the ceremony, the national anthem of both countries, ‘Negaraku’ and ‘Majulah Singapura’ were played. Tuanku Abdul Halim then took the salute from the Guard of Honour before inspecting the parade together with President Tan. Their majesties later made a state call on Tan and his wife at the West Drawing Room, The Istana. A state banquet will be hosted by the president in honour of the Malaysian royal couple at the palace in the evening. The state visit is to reciprocate Tan’s state visit to Malaysia in September 2013 and the underscores deep and long standing ties between Singapore and Malaysia.
