KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 – MAS kargo today safely transported a pair of giant pandas, Fu Wa and Feng Yi, from China to Kuala Lumpur on a two-year-old A330-200 freighter aircraft. MAS kargo, the air cargo division of Malaysia Airlines, said the MH 6462 flight made a special ferry flight to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport at 1.45 am from Shanghai Pudong International Airport before heading to Kuala Lumpur International Airport with the precious cargo.

“Upon arrival, the panda pair was warmly welcomed by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Datuk Seri G. Palanival and Ambassador of China to Malaysia Dr. Huang Huikang,” it said in a statement Wednesday. Flight MH 6462 was piloted by Captain Hamdan Che Ismail and co-pilot Imran Ahmad. Dr. Li of the China Wildlife Conservation Association and Dr. Naim Zainuddin of Zoo Negara were on board the flight to ensure the well-being of the giant pandas. Fu Wa and Feng Yi, from the Bifengxia panda breeding facility in Ya’an in China’s Sichuan Province, will be quarantined for a month at Zoo Negara’s panda centre, their home for the next 10 years.
