KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah attended the Yasin and doa selamat recitation in conjunction with his 87th birthday celebration at the National Mosque here Thursday night. The King was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah Hamidun. Present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, and members of foreign missions.
The Yasin and doa selamat recitation held after the Maghrib prayer was led by National chief imam Tan Sri Shaikh Ismail Muhammad. International Quran Reading Competition men’s champion Muhammad Anuar Ghazali later read the Quran before the Isyak congregation prayer which was attended by about 5,000 Muslims. Tuanku Abdul Halim was crowned the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the second time on April 11, 2012. He was first appointed the King in 1971 at the age of 44.
