KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 – Umno Youth remains optimistic that it would be able to persuade 1,000 young voters to return and vote in the Pengkalan Kubor by-election in Tumpat on Thursday. Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said today they have identified about 1,000 of the about 5,000 young voters who lived outside Tumpat district or Kelantan. “We still have four days to contact them to return and fulfil their obligation to vote, by giving their full support to Barisan Nasional (BN),” said Khairy, who is also the youth and sports Minister. When asked if he was confident BN would retain the Pengkalan Kubor seat, Khairy, who is also the Rembau MP, said it was still too early to say. The by-election is being held following the death of BN’s Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar from liver cancer on August 20. In the by-election, Barisan Nasional candidate Mat Razi Mat Ail, 48, will face PAS’s Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, 56, and independent, Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, 47.
