KEMAMAN, Oct 2 – The car boot sale on the site of the old Customs jetty has not only liven up the nightlife in Chukai but can become a new attraction to this town. Kemaman branch chairman of the Malaysian Small Entrepreneurs Chamber of Commerce Ahmad Fadzli Mohamad said the car boot sale is to help the young engage in business as they cannot afford high rental.
“Our objective is to assist young Malay entrepreneurs to promote their products without having big capital to start their business. “This initiative also provides opportunities for online traders to venture into business,” he told Bernama here, Thursday. Ahmad Fadzli said there are plans to open another site for the Car Boot Sale if there is overwhelming response from the young traders.
Meanwhile, a Bernama visit to the old customs jetty site found the place buzzing with customers checking out a wide range of products such as cheap clothing and rare items. Merchandise including second hand clothes, shoes, books and items not found in supermarkets are offered at affordable prices while bargaining is the norm. The Car Boot Sale with the casual concept is conducted on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 pm until midnight. A total of 53 traders joined on the first day of the Car Boot Sale paying RM35 for each car.
