KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 – A total of 90,491 affordable housing units under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing (PR1MA) have been approved nationwide. The housing for those under the middle income bracket involves 70 project, of which 15 had been given the green light for construction to commence. Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said construction of the had commenced in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Kedah, Johor and Negri Sembilan, which involves 37,000 housing units.
“If there are no obstacles, 3,184 affordable houses will be built in Malacca next year,” he said in reply to Sim Tong Him (DAP-Kota Melaka). Shahidan said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is also likely to reveal more details on the Rent-To-Own (RTO) scheme on Friday, while tabling the Budget 2015. In general, he said, the RTO scheme was to assist those who were qualified to own a house under PR1MA, but could not secure a bank loan. He said PR1MA would be careful to ensure that there are no abuse of RTO application by any parties.
