SETIU, Oct 8 – A 58-year-old retired technician was shocked to find that his RM70,000 savings in a bank was gone, after being transfered 69 times by an unidentified person yesterday. The victim, Johari Che Ismail from Taman Kancil Jaya, here, only realised this when he wanted to withdraw RM500 via the autoteller machine (ATM). His card was rejected twice in the 1pm incident.
Johari then sought an explanation from a bank officer who told him there were 69 transactions between March and October this year. The retiree then lodged a report at the Permaisuri police station at 4pm. District police chief Deputy Superintendent Abdul Rahman Raja Mohammad who confirmed the report said the case was referred to the Commercial Crime Investigation Divison. “Police are investigating the case,” he said in Kuala Terengganu today.
Abdul Rahman did not rule out any possiblity regarding the case. Johari when met at the station said he received RM123,000 from the government after his retirement from works Department end of 2013 and deposited RM70,000 into the bank in Permaisuri. “I wanted to withdraw RM500 from my savings account but was shocked to find that the card was rejected. the answer from the bank was even more shocking,” he said.
