GEORGE TOWN, Oct 13 – A gunman shot and injured a lorry driver in what the police suspect was linked to a failed drug transaction, outside the victim’s house in Bayan Lepas last night. Despite the gunshot wound in the left shoulder, the man dashed into the house in Mukim 12, Sungai Tiram to seek help in the incident about 11.20pm.
The 27-year-old was warded at the Penang Hospital in stable condition. The man – with two previous criminal records for drug-related cases – was seated in his lorry and ready to go to work when he was shot by the gunman. A police team found a spent 9mm Luger bullet near the front tyres of the lorry.
Southwest district police deputy chief, Deputy Superintendent Siti Nor Salawati Saad said today, the police had not ruled out drug trafficking as the motive behind the attempted murder.
