JAKARTA, Oct 19 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak arrived here Sunday afternoon to attend the swearing-in of Joko Widodo as Indonesia’s new president here tomorrow. The special aircraft carrying Najib, who was also accompanied by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, landed at the Halim Perdanakusuma airport here at about 6 pm local time (7 pm Malaysian time).
Najib’s arrival was received by Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim and Malaysian Permanent Representative to Asean Datuk Hasnudin Hamzah. The prime minister is among the 18 foreign dignitaries to attend the historic inauguration scheduled at 10 am local time tomorrow, that will see Joko or widely known as “Jokowi” appointed as Indonesia’s seventh president.
Najib is also scheduled to meet with Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and United States Secretary of State John Kerry after the inauguration before returning to Kuala Lumpur, tomorrow night. Jokowi takes over from Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who has been in office since 2004. Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo won the hotly contested Indonesian presidential election on July 22, beating Prabowo Subianto, a retired army general.
