KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 – The young generation (Gen Y) nationwide will have an opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and other national leaders on Nov 9. A ‘Karnival Genexter Bakti 2014’, organised by Welfare Organisation of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti), is to be held on that day at Dataran Putrajaya.

About 30,000 youths are expected to gather at the two-day carnival which will begin on Nov 8, in conjunction with the annual programme of the Wives of Barisan Nasional Elected Representatives. Bakti president Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said the event would enable the Gen Y to interact and get to know the prime minister and national leaders better.

“There will be no VIP table at the event, where we will have our meal with the Gen Y in a relaxed environment … we’ll be mingling with them. There will be no formalities,” she told Bernama. She said the carnival would be a platform for the Gen Y to engage in positive activities that could enhance their leadership ability, lifestyle, talent and potential, and to become an informed generation.

Rosmah, who is the prime minister’s wife, said such a programme could spur the Gen Y towards self-empowerment, and prepare them for their role as the country’s next echelon of leaders. “Besides that, we want to strengthen the spirit of camaraderie and volunteerism between Bakti and the Gen Y,” she said.
