HANOI, Oct 26 – Malaysia will be hosting the Asean Skills Competition for the third time in 2016. Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abdul Muttalib announced this here today. Ismail, who is also the Malaysian Skills Competition Council chairman, said all 10 Asean members of were unanimous in the decision to pick Malaysia to be the host for the 11th edition of the ASC in 2016.
Malaysia had hosted the inaugural ASC in 1995 and were also the hosts was in 2008. “The Cabinet has given the go ahead for Malaysia to be the host of the biennial competition in 2016,” he told Bernama after visiting the venue of the ASC 2014 at the National Convention Centre here. Fifty-one Malaysian youths are taking part in the ASC 2014 which opened on Oct 19 and ends on Wednesday.
The competition is held to raise the skill level among youths in the region. Gold and silver medal winners at ASC 2014 will automatically qualify for the World Skills Competition (WSC) in Sao Paulo, Brazil in August next year.
