GEORGE TOWN, Oct 28 – Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has urged the federal government to obtain the views of the masses before it implements the fuel rationalisation subsidy scheme next year. He said the initiative was necessary to prevent fraud and to ensure that only the target groups get the subsidy. “We have no idea how the mechanism works and we are still waiting. I think many issues have to be addressed before the scheme is implemented.

“Discuss with the people and organisations so that the economic principles of justice and fairness are maintained,” he told a press conference here Tuesday. Yesterday, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah said the scheme would be implemented next year, and divided into three levels based on monthly income.

According to the minister, only those earning less than RM5,000 would continue to enjoy the subsidy fully. Nevertheless, he said the mechanism was still being studied in detail by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry.
