GEORGE TOWN, Oct 29 – Bail for 157 Penang Voluntary Patrol Team (PPS) members, which ended today, has been extended until Dec 1. Some of them were seen reporting at the Northeast District police headquarters and included Penang Welfare, Caring Community and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh and Seri Delima assemblyman RSN Rayer.
Rayer said he was informed the investigation papers were still with the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the postponement was given to enable further investigations to be carried out. “We do not know what will happen in future but we will give our full cooperation to the police,” he told reporters here.
The Chief Minister’s political secretary, Wong Hon Wai said he hoped investigations on the case could be completed soon considering it has been almost 60 days since PPS personnel were detained on Aug 31. On Aug 31, 154 PPS personnel were detained for ignoring warnings not to carry out their activities after PPS was found to be not registered with the Registrar of Societies while three PPS leaders were arrested later.
