PUTRAJAYA, Oct 29 – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s sodomy 2 appeal at the Federal Court began yesterday with submissions by defence counsels Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram and N. Surendran. The hearing continues today with the prosecution, led by Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, expected to present their submission.

The five-member Federal Court bench is headed by Chief Justice Tun Arifin Zakaria and include Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif, Federal Court judges Tan Sri Abdull Hamid Embong, Tan Sri Suriyadi Halim Omar and Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop.

Anwar is looking to overturn the conviction of the Court of Appeal for sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan which came with a five-year-jail sentence. Meanwhile, the prosecution team is appealing for a longer jail term, stating earlier that five years was insufficient.
