KUANTAN, Nov 2 – The special Pahang holiday tomorrow to mark the state’s Malaysia Cup soccer victory does not cover candidates sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations and their invigilators, the Pahang Education Department said today. The examinations will be held as scheduled in the state, said the department’s assessment and examination sector chief Razali Mohd.

“A total of 23,323 SPM school candidates and 554 private candidates as well as 2,615 STPM candidates will sit for the examinations at 260 centres in Pahang beginning tomorrow. “A number of parents and candidates have called the department to enquire about the special holiday,” he said when contacted by Bernama. He also said that 18 examination centres would be set up throughout the state to cater to the 554 private candidates. Seven candidates would take the examination in hospitals, four at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Kuantan Hospital and three at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Temerloh Hospital.

The Pahang government had declared Monday a special holiday in celebration of the state’s victory in the 2014 Malaysia Cup last night. Pahang won a penalty shoot-out 5-3 over Johor Darul Ta’zim after the match ended 2-2 after extra-time at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, in reminding those involved in the SPM examination which begins on Monday, said: “All duty officers will work as usual and all students must sit for the examination as scheduled.”
