CAMERON HIGHLANDS, Nov 6 – Police confirmed 20 homes and 20 vehicles affected and damaged by mudslides in Ringlet to Kampung Baru here yesterday. Cameron Highlands OCPD Deputy Supt Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the affected homes and vehicles are located on the banks of the River Ringlet in the village.
He said six families comprising 26 people were transferred to the Cameron House while the rest stayed in the family home or their relatives. “We received information that the incident at 6.30pm yesterday due to heavy rain between the hours of 6 to 7 pm, causing overflows into the River Ringlet house located on the edge of the village.
“Not long after that of the 41 families consisting of 177 people in Bertam Valley is also transferred to the same hall as a precaution. “It is due to release of water from the dam VOA to stabilize the water reservoir at the dam last night reached a dangerous level. “So in order to avoid danger, the dam had to be discharged through the Sungai Bertam. “Due to the security measures and the police took the initial steps taken to move those living in Bertam Valley,” he said.
Wan Mohd Zahari, who also confirmed the release of water was carried out early this morning said, if taking into account the entire period for flood affected homes and they moved as a safety measure, the number of residents in the hall is 203 people. He said residents would only be allowed to return to their homes when the dam is stable. “The situation is under control and the water began to recede,” he said.
