PUTRAJAYA, Nov 9 – Datuk Seri Najib Razak today called on Generation Y to ‘be more proactive’ in following their dreams. The prime minister said young Malaysians should not allow any obstacles or hardships to stand in the way of their efforts to achieve their ambitions. “Whether it’s studying English, or starting a business, or founding a club at school, or furthering your understanding of religion, nothing should stop you from fulfilling your dreams.
“If your heart has a desire, you must do all you can to chase it so you can become a person of excellence and success,” he said while launching the Genexter Carnival 2014. The carnival, themed ‘Empowering the Future Generation’, was organised by the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti).
The event includes a careers’ fair, an innovation exhibition, religious discussions and the Genexter Forum with Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin. Bakti president and Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said the event was aimed at giving a platform for young people to hone their skills, build their leadership qualities, learn about current issues and interact with the country’s leaders.
In her address, she said young people should be at the frontlines in defending the country’s honour and sovereignty. “As such, I call on the young to avoid chasing short-term pleasures, sacrificing peace and jeopardising the unity that we have built. “They must be good at filtering information, and using their minds and wits in analysing all issues and subjects,” she said. The carnival was attended by some 30,000 youths aged between 18 and 35. Present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman and other cabinet ministers.
