KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 – Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) today accepted the brickbats from former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as positive criticism, just like from a father to his child.  Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar said Selangor BN had always been open to criticism, especially from the elder statesman and former leader who had contributed so much for the country.

“We take notice of all criticisms, including Dr Mahathir’s opinion on young voters, and we do not deny, of course, the importance of winning the hearts of young voters,” he told reporters after opening the Selangor PPP Convention in Ampang here today. He said Selangor BN truly appreciated Dr Mahathir’s opinion and criticism, and they would try to make improvement in the party.

In his blog posting last Wednesday, Dr Mahathir lashed out at Selangor Umno, saying that it should be restructured to give more focus to the so-called Generation Y voters. Earlier in his speech, Noh said Selangor BN should strengthen unity among component party members as a preparation to face the next general election. “Besides strengthening unity, taking intensive efforts is also important to identify all voters in Selangor to achieve our ultimate goal to win back the state from Pakatan Rakyat.”

Meanwhile, PPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas said the party was always open and ready to help Selangor BN win back the state from Pakatan Rakyat. “I would like to call on Selangor BN to use PPP’s election machinery to help the coalition. “We have a very strong machinery. If BN does not want to use our machinery, it will be a loss.” Kayveas said there were more than 80,000 PPP members in Selangor and another 600,000 nationwide who had registered as voters and were prepared to help BN in the campaign to win the next general election.
