KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 – The government is satisfied with the relocation progress of the Royal Malaysian Air Force air base in Sungai Besi, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong said the relocation costs borne by the government and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) would involve an allocation of RM31 million to the company.
“Eight sites have been identified (for the relocation). “We are monitoring the implementation and the work is still at the preliminary stage, involving the purchase of land and infrastructure development,” he said when winding up debate on the Supply Bill 2015 for the Finance Ministry. Several Opposition members aired their dissatisfaction after Chua evaded their questions during the debate on the amount of 1MDB’s loans guaranteed by the government.
Loke Siew Fook (DAP-Seremban) interjected and called for a division, for which he was supported by 14 members. Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Datuk Ismail Mohamed Said then called for the division bells to be rung for two minutes. The Supply Bill was approved with 57 members voting for it and 34 against. The government has repeatedly asserted that it only guaranteed RM5.8 billion of 1MDB’s total debts.
