KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 – After receiving much criticism from the Opposition regarding Members of Parliament using car licence plates that went against the specifications set by the Road Transport Department (JPJ), a minister today acted swiftly to rectify the situation. Based on The Rakyat Post‘s observation this afternoon, the owner of a Toyota Alphard with a minister emblem, with the licence plates WYU 818, changed them to follow the JPJ specifications.
An earlier photograph distributed to reporters showed the licence plates for the Alphard’s letters were placed close together. It was alleged that this rendered it difficult to read them. Segambut’s DAP MP Lim Lip Eng asked JPJ to conduct road blocks at the entrance to Parliament to “catch” ministers and deputy ministers not following the licence plate regulations.
“A deputy minister’s car with the licence plates WSW 505 is confusing, while a minister’s Alphard is also not following the specifications laid out by JPJ. How can ministers do this? “I suggest JPJ conduct checks by coming to Parliament early in the morning. “I personally will help with these road blocks,” Lim said at a press conference at the Parliament lobby.
