All Home Ministry Agencies Ready To Face Second Wave Of Floods

MARANG, Nov 22 – All agencies under the Home Ministry are ready to face a second wave of floods in the east coast, forecast will strike on Monday. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the agencies had responded in a coordinated manner after the first wave (of floods) hit Terengganu and Kelantan this week.

He said the Civil Defence Department (JPAM) had placed 11,800 officers and members to provide assistance should the second wave materialise. Wan Junaidi was speaking to reporters after making a working visit to the Marang prison here today. Also present were Prisons director-general Datuk Zulkifli Omar and JPAM director-general Datuk Zaitun Ab Samad.

In BALIK PULAU, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the Health Ministry will place temporary mobile clinics at flood shelters if the number of evacuees at them exceed 1,000 people. He added that Health Ministry staff would also emphasise hygiene and safe cooking at the shelters to prevent disease outbreaks and food poisoning.

He told this reporters after opening “Karnival Syoknya Balik Pulau” which aimed to promote healthy living among the people. In KOTA BAHARU, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad warned suppliers and retailers their licences will be revoked if they were caught hoarding essential goods during the monsoon season. He added there was sufficient stocks of essential goods to meet demand during the monsoon season.
