Police, Military Exhale Cameron Highlands Night – PM



SERDANG, Nov 22 – Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) will mobilize members to Cameron Highlands to demolish illegal land clearing activities in situ at night, said Datuk Seri Najib Razak. The Prime Minister said the decision was taken following the meeting with the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah, by reports that such activities are often performed by illegal immigrants (PATI) at night.

“I have already instructed the Inspector General of Police (Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar) and Chief of the Armed Forces (Jen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zain) to send each member so at night we will patrol more comprehensive and if there are illegal activities illegal we will take action, “he said. He was speaking to reporters after opening the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) 2014, Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (Maeps), here today.

Regarding the influx of illegal immigrants on high ground, he said, more decisive and effective enforcement will be carried out through collaboration between the Pahang state government and the Central Government. Najib said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the Chairman of the Special Committee on Flash Floods in Cameron Highlands will visit the highlands Monday along Pahang Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.

“I hope that the results of visits and discussions with it, we will create more effective action and weaknesses in terms of enforcement for these will be transformed into a form more serious and effective enforcement,” he said. Mud floods and landslides in Kampung Raja, exhibition Ringlet and Bertam Valley in Cameron Highlands on November 5 last year, resulting in five deaths and more than 90 victims from 28 families were evacuated to relief centers in the People’s Multipurpose Hall in Ringlet.
