KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 – A suggestion that the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) waive loan repayment for one race, if accepted, will affect the future of our youth. MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pic) said the education of young people should not be gambled away to meet the needs of certain groups of people.
“This is shallow thinking. Young people must be trained by uncovering their potential and become pilars of the nation,” he told reporters after launching the delivery of aid to flood victims in Terengganu at Wisma MCA, in Kuala Lumpur, today. Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali suggested at a Malay NGOs forum yesterday that bumiputeras be exempted from repaying PTPTN loans.
Liow, who is also Transport Minister, said that race should not deny young people from having access to education. Currently, PTPTN borrowers who complete their studies with first class honours are exempted from repaying loans regardless of race.
