KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 24 – The state government in collaboration with Indonesia’s third largest airline, Lion Air will perform direct flights from Kuala Terengganu to a city in China, starting next year. Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee, said his office has identified three areas in the country and will choose one of them.
He said he is now also conducting negotiations for the realization of the direct flights are expected to take place next year. “If direct flights from Kuala Terengganu to a city China to become a reality, then we expect tourists to increase. “So far still in negotiations and we will make the best choice to choose a city in China for the benefit of both parties,” he said during First Flight Air / You Wings from Medan to Kuala Terengganu in the arrival hall of Terminal International Airport Sultan Mahmud (LTSM ), here, today.
The Boeing 737 was carrying a total of 500W 45 passengers from Medan involving delegation led by Deputy Economy and Development of North Sumatra, R Sabrina. Mohd Jidin said it will provide direct flights three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays departing from Namu International Airport, Medan, Indonesia.
He said they are targeting 5,000 to 7,000 tourists from Medan to visit this country through a planned tour packages travel agency from Medan and Terengganu. “We are confident that with the availability of direct flights from Medan to this country will be a great benefit to tourists as understood demand is high enough.
“We expect demand exceeding the target of 7,000 tourists because it involves three East Coast states, Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan will use this direct flight,” he said. Meanwhile, Sabrina said it hoped that this cooperation will open up opportunities for travel agencies and Terengganu from Medan to showcase and promote their products. “We are very happy with this collaboration and we look forward to welcoming visitors from Malaysia Terengganu especially to Medan increased,” he said.
