KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 – Hamas Political parties today asked Malaysia continues to play a leading role in issues relating to Palestine to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said the request was expressed Head of Hamas Political Affairs, Mohammad Naser in an hour-long meeting of the two leaders at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of the Interior said, to establish good relations with Hamas and Fatah, enable all the people in this country understand and sympathize with the pressures faced by both the party in Gaza.
“Although we have a relationship with Hamas but we do not dismiss Fatah and in this case what they asked at the meeting because Malaysia occupies a non-permanent UNSC seat member, they ask that Malaysia led Palestinian issues in the UN Security Council.
“Surely it is the delivery request from the party to party, from Hamas to UMNO and God willing I will forward this matter to the Supreme Council for the years already, the establishment of Malaysia is supporting the struggle of the Palestinian people,” he told reporters here.
On 16 October last year, Malaysia elected to non-permanent seat in the UNSC for the fourth time for the period January 1, 2015 until December 31, 2016, after receiving 187 votes out of 192 member countries in the difficult votes that are run in New York.
Malaysia UNSC non-permanent seat for the first time in 1965 and re-elected to participate in the event at 1989/1990. It occupies the seat for the third time in 1999/2000. Ahmad Zahid said, besides Hamas also called for help from Malaysia via Putera UMNO Club can continue. “Keep in mind the aid is based on humanitarian grounds,” he said.
In addition, he said the Palestinians the opportunity to continue their education in the country is also among touched by Hamas. “So far we help the Palestinians to continue their studies here and there is a possibility if there is financial capability available to us, the number of students entering higher. “It is a commitment UMNO that Gaza needs to be rebuilt,” he said.
