BUKIT MERTAJAM, Nov 26 – Amni Zuhayra Mohd Fuad, the daughter of a teacher couple, was shocked when she was named Penang’s Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) top performer for the year. The 12-year-old pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Convent Bukit Mertajam said she did not expect to obtain the excellent results as she only gave full attention to her studies one month before the examination.
She was one of 34 students in the school who scored A in all subjects. Her father, Mohd. Fuad Husien, 39, who is a teacher at the Batu Lancang Vocational College, George Town, near here, said his daughter had been attending additional classes on weekends in preparation for the UPSR examination since early this year. Meanwhile, G.Sugeson, 12, the son of Penang Bernama Bureau cameraman K.Ganeson, obtained 6As and 1B in the UPSR.
Ganeson said the family was happy with the results although his son, a pupil of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Ramakrishna, had targeted to score 7As. “He had been studying hard since the beginning of the year and was slightly disappointed to obtain a B for his Tamil written paper. “We want Sugeson not to feel too disappointed as the UPSR is not everything. I could see he has accepted the result,” he said.
