KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 – The Dewan Rakyat today adjourned sine die after sitting for 28 days since Oct 7. During the Third Meeting, Second Term of the 13th Parliament, the Dewan Rakyat passed several bills including the Supply Bill 2015 or Budget 2015 which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Oct 10.

Also passed were three bills under the purview of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM), namely the Companies Commission of Malaysia (Amendment) Bill 2014, Business Registration (Amendment) Bill 2014 and Limited Liability Partnership (Amendment) Bill 2014, aimed at creating more efficient administration and avoiding overlapping of jurisdiction.

The other bills passed included the Prisons (Amendment) Bill 2014, Financial (No. 2) Bill, Malaysia Airlines System Berhad (Administration) Bill 2014, Control of Supplies (Amendment) Bill 2014, Registration of Engineers (Amendment) Bill 2014, Architects (Amendment) Bill 2014 and Quantity Surveyors (Amendment) Bill 2014.

Amendments to the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 were also tabled during the sitting, which among others, was to include ketum as a dangerous drug. The tabling of the Members of Parliament (Remuneration)(Amendment) Bill 2014 on raising the salary and allowance of the lawmakers has been brought forward to the next sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.

This time an emergency parliamentary meeting was also convened on July 20 to discuss the tragedy that befell Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17. The same proceeding was also used as a platform for the parliamentarians to raise the issue of the sufferings of the Palestinians in Gaza from the Isreali regime’s atrocities.

Najib yesterday tabled the White Paper on Addresing the Islamic State (IS) Threat which proposed boosting of certain existing laws in tackling the threats of militancy and terrorism. The parliamentary sitting had been coloured by lively debates, differing opinions and heated arguments, demands for apology and certain MPs being ordered out of the august House. Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin at the end of the sitting, thanked all who had cooperated to ensure a smooth proceeding this time.
