KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 – Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s tight schedule at the Umno General Assembly at Putra World Trade Centre yesterday saw him going from place to place, including launching a book, titled Politik Islam dan Melayu (Islamic Politics and the Malays). The prime minister and Umno president launched the book, authored by Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, at Yayasan Dakwah Islamiyah Malaysia’s booth.
Asyraf is Yadim chairman and Umno supreme council member. Najib had earlier listened to debates at Dewan Merdeka as speakers tried to get his attention. During the lunch break, Najib met Umno delegates from Pahang at Dewan Tun Ismail before joining the congregation for Friday prayers at Dewan Tun Razak. He was joined by party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also deputy prime minister, and other top party leaders.
After prayers, Najib joined Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, in launching the National Women Graduates Movement Secretariat. The secretariat, run by a pro tem committee headed by Shalina Abdul Nasir, aims to woo women graduates and undergraduates from higher learning institutions and those studying abroad to join the wing as members. Co-founder Nurdiyana Nadirah Mohd Hadi said committee members would be visiting institutions nationwide to explain their aspirations.
Najib then headed to the media centre to visit the more than 100 organisations accredited to cover the assembly. His final stop was at the Balai Berita booth, which housed the New Straits Times Press media personnel. On hand to greet him were Media Prima Berhad group managing director Datuk Amrin Awaluddin, NSTP chief executive officer Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah and NSTP group managing editor Datuk Abdul Jalil Hamid.
