KUALA LUMPUR, DEC 25 – Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will assume the responsibilities of the Prime Minister in the absence of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is currently overseas. However, the Prime Minister will be updated on the developments affecting the nation including the worsening flood situation in several states.
“I told him (Najib) not to worry as I will do everything necessary to ensure all is safe,” he said. Muhyiddin said, the government has the capability to deal with the floods that hit the nation every year. He urged the people not to worry about the absence of the prime minister and instead work together to alleviate the sufferings of flood victims.
“Don’t worry if the Prime Minister is not in the country, worry instead about what is happening in our country (the floods),” he said. Muhyiddin was replying to criticisms by certain quarters especially on social media against Najib who is reportedly playing golf with US President, Barack Obama. He said, the prime minister had been working hard managing the country.
“There are times when the Prime Minister needs to rest, give him a break as a human being,” Muhyiddin said after attending a Christmas feast at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church, here, today. He also did not see the need for Najib to return immediately to address the flood situation.
“If I am unable to deal with the situation, then I will ask him to return,” Muhyiddin said. According to a report on the Washington Post, Najib is currently on holiday playing golf with US President Barack Obama and discussing issues relating to ASEAN among others.
