Telecomunication Services Not Seriously Affected By Floods – Shabery
KEMAMAN, Dec 25 – The overall telecommunications system in flood affected states has not been affected severely although there are bound to be slight interruptions said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek. He said there has been temporary interruption of services in Kuala Krai and Gua Musang but after the service providers had taken several initiatives, the service has been restored.
“We cannot say how long the system can sustain in areas affected by the floods but there has been no major problems in the telecommunications service throughout the country. Problems could have been caused by damaged or disconnected wires at some places,” he told reporters, here today.
Shabery said even before the floods, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had urged the telecommunications providers in the country to relocate their transmission stations to higher ground to avoid flooding. He said to overcome disruption of services in flooded areas, telecommunications service providers have placed mobile transmitters in several East Coast states, especially those affected by floods.
