JERANTUT, Dec 28 – Approximately 80,000 residents here who have had their clean water supply cut off over the past four days can now breathe a sigh of relief. This is because Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has approved an immediate allocation for the purchase of a new water pump for Batu Embun water treatment plant to enable the supply of clean water to the residents to be restored.
Announcing the matter after visiting the plant today, Najib said it was hoped that the purchase of the new water pump would solve water woes faced by the residents. “I have gone to the ground and watched with my own eyes the problems faced by the residents, and to prove the government’s concern, we will try to do our best to alleviate the people’s burden during this difficult time,” he said.
The plant had not been operational since its raw water intake was inundated by flood waters, which also caused clean water supply to be disrupted. Najib also visited Batu Embun flood relief centre, which is sheltering 56 flood evacuees from 12 families, as well as the evacuees at Sekolah Menengah Seberang Temerloh in Temerloh before taking a helicopter ride to visit other flood-hit areas in Maran and Pekan.
