ATM Mobilises 5,000 Members To Aid Flood Victims – Hishammuddin
KOTA BAHARU, Dec 29 – The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) has mobilised more than 5,000 members and assets to help flood victims in the affected states. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the assets include two Agusta helicopters, 89 three-tonne trucks; 62 combat boats; 27 Land Rover and 19 TATRA trucks.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) provided four EC725 helicopters, two Nuri helicopters and two C130 aircraft while the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) provided a Fennec and a Super Lynx helicopter. The ministry also mobilised volunteers from the Territorial Army and National Service Training Programme (PLKN) to the flooded areas,” he told reporters, here today.
The ATM chief, Gen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zain had earlier accompanied him to deliver basic necessities to 2,000 flood victims at SMK Pengkalan Chepa. Asked about the welfare of ministry staff affected by the floods, Hishammuddin said they would be given cash aid of RM500 per person. “We will also give unrecorded leave to the ministry staff to enable them to repair their damaged homes,” he added.
