GEORGETOWN, Jan 8 – Tropfest South East Asia, the newest addition to the world’s largest short film festival, has today revealed the 16 finalists in the running to take home the Tropfest SEA trophy and a cash prize of US $12,000 on February 1, 2015.
With five countries represented in the final shortlist, filmmakers from Cambodia, Malaysia the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam will all be vying for the coveted winner’s spot and unbeatable prizes on Festival Night. Each film will have their world premiere at Tropfest SEA 2015 in front of a crowd of thousands go international film enthusiasts.
In the additional to the US $12,000 cash award, sponsored by Yayasan Sime Darby, the winner will also receive an industry immersion trip to Los Angeles, courtesy of the Motion Picture Association. Yayasan Sime Darby will also be sponsoring the US $500 prize awarded to each finalist, as well as finalist flights and part of the festival production costs.

The Tropfest SEA short film competition which is supported by Malaysia Major Events (MME) was open to all residents and citizens of Southeast Asia. Entrants were asked to submit films of under 7 minutes, featuring this year’s Tropfest Signature Item (TSI), “WHEEL”.
“This event will indeed strengthen Malaysia’s appeal as a leading short film and entertainment destination in the region and further complement our initiatives for the Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015 celebration,” Said Tony Nagamaiah, General Manager of MME.
