KUCHING, Jan 10 – The weather in town is gloomy reflecting the emotions of people in the state who are mourning over the demise of former Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Ya’kub. The national and Sarawak flags were seen flying half-mast to pay respect for Rahman, who had served as the third Chief Minister of the state.
Rahman was 87 when he passed away due to old age at Normah Specialist Medical Centre at 9.30pm yesterday. He will be accorded a state funeral ceremony at the Jamek Mosque here which is expected to commence at about 10am.
Several guests of honours including the present Head of the State Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem and members of the State Cabinet. His remains is expected to be buried at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery here after the Zohor prayer.
