KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 – The sitting of the first ever Malaysian Youth Parliament (PBM) has garnered satisfactory remarks from minister of Youth and Sports Khairy Jamaluddin. Speaking to reporters at the Dewan Rakyat today, Khairy said the motions tabled by members of PBM were of good quality and he was satisfied with the sitting.
“The motions presented and discussed by the members were supported by facts and additional information from relevant sources. “I trust that with time, their debates and discussions will improve even more,” he said. Khairy added that PBM was a wide and official opportunity for the youth to bring forth their ideas through a democratic process.
When asked about the system of the PBM that utilised a committee module rather than an adversarial module where there is a government and an opposition, Khairy was quick to say that they did not want to politicise debate. “The committee module which we use in PBM, is more of a platform for ideas without exemplifying who wins and who loses,” he said adding that the competitive nature of debate was already seen in today’s sitting.
