KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of former Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub who passed away today. Najib in his twitter said, “My condolences to the family of Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub. His contribution to Sarawak was tremendous.
“Moga roh dicucuri rahmat.” he tweeted. Abdul Rahman died at 9.40pm at Normah Specialist Medical Centre. Rahman was installed as the fourth Yang di-Pertua Negeri on April 2, 1981, and held the position for four years.
He also served as chief minister from July 7, 1970 until March 26, 1981 before relinquishing the post to his nephew, Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is the present Yang di-Pertua Negeri. He was also a cabinet member under the leadership of the country’s first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman. He also played a key role in the establishment of Petronas.
