PEKAN, Jan 10 – A comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOP) to face massive floods will be ready in the next six months, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. He said a special committee was preparing the SOP, which would also include the proposal for new assets and training for those involved.
At present, he said the country only had an SOP to handle normal floods. At the same time, he said the government would also set up a committee of experts to identify the causes of massive floods and ways to prevent them. “Hopefully, we can get the expert report in the next three months,” he said after visiting several villages affected by floods in his Pekan parliamentary constituency here today.
Present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob. Najib said the government would also consider the need to purchase new assets and equipment for the Armed Forces and the Meteorological Department to face the natural disaster in future.
