PEKAN, Jan 10 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Razak said the people should also play their roles to help reduce the impact of the natural disasters which will be more frequent due to climate change. He said the people should have a new perspective on disasters such as floods, as previously they would only point fingers and put the blame solely on the government.
“To find and reduce the causes are our shared responsibility. We should ask ourselves whether we are abiding by the law when performing our duty or role,” he said at school aid presentation ceremony for students affected by floods at Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara in Paloh Hinai here today.
For instance, he said those who were involved in land clearing should not exceed the boundary set by the authorities while those who are in the mining industry must ensure that their activities would not cause heavy erosion and siltation.
Najib, who is Pekan member of parliament, said the government would help the flood victims, including rebuild their homes which were damaged by the natural disaster. At the function, Najib also announced that some 20,000 students in Pahang, who were affected by floods, would receive RM120 each from Yayasan Pahang.
