KUCHING, Jan 10 – Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem described the late Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub as a key figure in many important moments in the state’s and country’s history.
“Tun Rahman has been a key figure in major events in both the state and the country since the formation of Malaysia till the surrender of the communists. He was also change in the education system and was involved in the formation of Petronas,” said Adenan after paying his respects to Rahman’s family here last night.
Rahman, who is a former federal cabinet minister and former Sarawak chief minister, died at the Normah Specialist Hospital, here at 9.40pm last night. Meanwhile, a state funeral will be held at 10am today (Saturday) at Masjid Jamek Petra Jaya, Kuching.
The Chief Minister’s Public Affairs and Communication Unit said in a statement that the public and VIPs were advised to wear dark attire as a mark of respect to the demise of the former head of state during the state funeral. The state government announced that the Sarawak flags and national flags were to be flown at half-mast today.
