KOTA BAHARU, Jan 16 – A total of 4,452 companies in Kelantan registered under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system up to Dec 31 last year. Kelantan Customs director Datuk Abdullah Zawawi Abd Latiff said the number exceeded the projected list of 4,000 business entities that were provided by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).
“The registration of companies for states hit by floods, including Kelantan is extended to this Jan 31 to give opportunity for the affected traders to register. “Based on the registration so far, we are confident the number of companies registered will increase by this month’s end,” he said when contacted for comments on the number of hardcore tax evaders in the state.
Abdullah Zawawi said based on the positive development, it is believed the number of tax evaders was minimal. “The positive development (number of registered companies) showed that companies were aware of the advantages of GST that benefits the people,” he said.
