KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 – Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) will release the third series of Medicinal Plant stamps and philatelic products on Tuesday (Jan 20).
Pos Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood said the first series of stamps to be released in 2015 was to create awareness for the public on the various local species of plants which had medicinal properties. “It is hoped that through this release we can introduce the uniquness of these plants and the public may take this opportunity to get the collection from the nearest Pos Malaysia branch,” he said in a statement here, Saturday.
The first and second series of Medicinal Plant stamps and philatelic collections were released in 1998 and 2004. He said in this release, four types of medicinal plants had been highlighted, and they were the cat’s whiskers (misai kucing), hempedu bumi (bile of the earth), roselle and elephant’s trunk.
The stamps which measure 30mm x 40mm could be obtained in three denominations, 60 sen for those featuring the cat’s whiskers, 70 sen (roselle) and 80 sen (hempedu bumi), while miniature sheets measuring 100mm x 70mm that feature the elephant’s trunk can be obtained for RM3 each. Besides that, first day covers priced at 50 sen each, could also be purchased on Tuesday.
