2015 BR1M Payment More Meaningful – Recipients

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Jan 18 – The payment of this year’s 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) has been deemed more meaningful by the recipients. Halijah Abdullah, 70, said the this year’s BR1M money would really help her in coping with the rising cost of living and the hike in the price of consumer products.

She said it also helped reduce her children’s burden in paying for her medications. “It is also good that the payment is made in stages, especially in this uncertain economic situation. If it’s a lump sum payment, it will definitely be spent in no time,” said the woman who had enjoyed BR1M over the past three years.

Halijah said this to reporters when met at the state-level presentation of BR1M by Penang Umno Youth chief Datuk Zainal Abidin Osman here today. Meanwhile, Halmiah Hasan, 63, described the one-third of the BR1M payment she received today would really help her manage her money for medications and emergency situation.

“This year, we see hikes in price of consumer products. Life will be quite difficult. So, this BR1M money will help alleviate our burdens and it is also good that the payment is made in stages. “Today, we receive only RM300 and will receive the remaining amount later. So, we can plan our finances better instead of spending the money at one go,” Halmiah said.

For R. Nandiri, 40, the early payment of BR1M was also apt in view of the uncertain economic situation. “Prices are on the rise, but we have to spend on our children’s school items and daily needs. The payment proves the government’s concern over the people’s problems,” Nandiri said.

Meanwhile, Zainal Abidin said there were 283,800 people who would receive BR1M in Penang this year, involving an allocation of RM218.3 million. In the 2015 Budget, the government announced that BR1M was to increase from RM650 to RM950 for households with a monthly income of RM3,000 and below and that it would be disbursed in three stages of RM300 each to be paid in January and May with balance RM350 in Sept 2015.
