KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 19 – The Education Ministry has assured that schools affected with floods nationwide will receive their text books by the end of the month or at least on Feb 1. Education Minister II Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the re-printing process for the textbooks destroyed in the floods were taking some time while furnitures damaged such as chairs and tables also need to be ordered.
” The problem will be solved as soon as possible as it involves the children’s education,” he told reporters after witnessing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and the Taylor’s University at UMT in Gong Badak, here, today.
Also present were UMT Vice Chancellor Datuk Dr Ibrahim Komoo and his deputy Datuk Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar and Taylor’s University president Datuk Hassan Said. Idris said so far, the ministry has received reports from affected schools on damaged classrooms, furnitures and textbooks and the total losses were estimated at RM500 million. ” Several schools in Kelantan have received replacement textbooks last week,” he said.
