KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 – The Embassy of the Philippines here said today that the Philippine government does not grant visas free of charge to Chinese nationals visiting the Philippines. Third Secretary and Vice Consul Johann Veronica Andal said in a statement to Bernama that the embassy had received no directive on the granting of free visas to Chinese nationals.

A Bernama report from Beijing yesterday had stated that the Philippines was one of several ASEAN countries that offered visas free to Chinese nationals. Malaysia had announced on Jan 20 the waiver of visa fee for tourists from, among other countries, China.
